CHILD SAFETY BLINDS

All our blinds are supplied with safety devices but for added Child Safety a specific child safe blind type can also be chosen.

ROLLER Blinds

Spring Rollers are inherently Child Safe as they have no looped cords or chains. These offers an ideal Child Safe solution in domestic homes.

Perfect Fit Rollers. These are also inherently child safe and come with an ingenious frame that attaches to your window. Please ask your MC Blinds representative for more information.

SAFE WAND OPTION

We can supply a Child Safe “Wand” option which simplifies the opening/closing operation and eliminates the requirement for a cord and chain loop.

Pleated Blinds

Pleated blinds in a Perfect Fit Frame or a Tensioned Format can also provide for a simpler and safer operation.

MOTORISED Blinds

Motorised Blinds are another Child Safe option to choose and MC Blinds offers a full range of Mains and Low Voltage motorised solutions. (Mains & Battery)
Roman, Rollers, Venetian, Vertical and Pleated blinds can be motorized by MC Blinds engineers on request.

SAFETY FIRST

Your home should be a place where your children are safe and protected, but there is a hidden danger in many Irish homes. The cords and chains of window blinds and curtains can pose a serious risk. Young children, particularly under the age of three, can strangle in the loop of cords and chains from window blinds and curtains.

Child Safety Considerations

  • Venetian blinds - Cords must be a minimum of 1.5m from the ground and have a cord consolidator to avoid choking loops.
  • Keep chairs, tables, and other furniture items away from windows to prevent children climbing up and reaching curtain rails or blind cords.
  • Roller and Roman blinds – With these sort of blinds the control chains must have a breakaway connector and be 600mm above the ground or be fixed with a retaining device. The retaining device must be a minimum of 1.5 metres from the ground.
  • Where cords cannot be cut, a tie down or tension device can be used to pull the cord tight and secure it to the wall.
  • Blind Cords - Cords ending in a loop are particularly risky. Make sure to cut the cord to eliminate the loop and install tassels. They should also end at least 1.5 meters above the ground, so children cannot reach the cord.
  • After cutting a blind cord make sure you do not tie or knot the ends together after cutting – doing so would create a new loop in which a child could become entangled

Never put a bed, cot, high chair or playpen near a window or patio door where a child can reach a curtain or blind cord.
